ピーチの日本(12) 硫黄島
Iwo-jima（硫黄島）, or Sulfar island is famous for hard fighting
spot between Japan and USA at World War ��, for 36 days. Only this fight during the Pacific War, American toll was more than Japanese toll. We remember lieutenant general（中将） Kuribayashi Tadamichi （栗林忠通）. Recently two films were made by director Clint Eastwood, "Flags of Our Fathers"（親たちの星条旗）, from view point of USA, "Letters from IWO JIMA"（硫黄島からの手紙）, from view point of Japan. Now there are no civilian at this island, only troops of the Self-Defense Forces（自衛隊）(the Air Self-Defense Force and the Maritime Self-Defense Force).
